The name Jezebel appears several times in the Scriptures, but it is in connection with just two individuals and by agreement the 4th-century development of the Mother of Harlots, culminating in the laying down of the foundation of what was later to become the Roman Catholic Church.
The first mention of Jezebel is in 1 Kings and 2 Kings, which speak of Queen Jezebel, a Sidonian princess and the daughter of King Ethbaal. Her principal sin was causing others to worship Satan by the use of idols placed in groves of trees; symbolic of pure wickedness, and the worship of stars; literally principalities and powers of wickedness in heavenly places. The principle characteristic of her sin from a practical standpoint was standing with the authority of a Queen, for the purpose of corrupting and turning that power to an end of wickedness. It is the development of a prophetic priesthood dedicated to the worship of Baal.
The second mention is a reference to a woman who calls herself a prophetess in the church of Thyatira, whose principle activity was seduction through teachings that led the church into fornication, by eating food sacrificed to Idols. In so doing, this church set aside the efficacy and meaning of the cross, and the shedding of Christ’s blood for sin, by making created things an object of worship. Queen Jezebel married King Ahab who was said to have “made light” of the sins of Jeroboam. The church of Thyatira was said to “suffer” Jezebel. King Ahab’s attitude was indicative of his own lack of spiritual understanding and indifference to the sins of Jeroboam – even though Israel had the Law which forbade idolatry. It was also a neglecting to comprehend the offence to God Himself.
The Church in Thyatira could not be unaware of the offence caused by fornication in their midst, because they had the light of Christ, yet they were nevertheless prepared to suffer Jezebel and her fornications. I would like to add that whilst the woman here named by the Lord Himself as Jezebel, may have indeed been a real woman in the church at Thyatira, its fuller meaning lies in the eventual rise of The Mother of Harlots in the 4th century which was to become a Roman Catholic (world) Church, filled with pagan idolatry. Thyatira is the 4th of the seven churches in Revelation and is widely understood to be both a local church in what is present-day Turkey, in the first century, as well as an eventual continuation from the 4th century right up to the present day through the Roman Catholic Church. In Revelation chapter two where these passages can be found concerning Thyatira, there is a reference describing how the fornications of Jezebel are understood by the church at that time.
These are the Lord’s words and therefore cannot be changed. “But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching [of Jezebel] who have not known the deep things of Satan, as they call them—I place no other burden on you. [Lit: Continue to abstain and hold your attitude] (v24). To the Lord Himself, the teachings of Jezebel are not deep things, so the Lord says “as they call them” to show that these teachings are recognised as “the deep things of Satan” to those who have witnessed them. It also reveals that such teachings attend to the very nature of the flesh [the heart] and is, therefore, appealing to the flesh as well as a snare and spiritual bondage. It also attends to the very mind of Satan’s activities as well. Idolatry is an end-time reality as well as a first-century sufferance. To be born again and to thereafter continue to be informed by the air, tends to deception, but to be taught Satanic principles is to become idolatrous in nature and practise; a thing that is characteristically Jezebel. This was the sin in this church. Not simply food sacrificed to idols, as the unbeliever sacrifices, but food sacrificed to idols in the church; thereafter an eating of the food as well. [Lit: full and complete agreement].
Given that the principle presentation, both with regards to Queen Jezebel and Jezebel “who calls herself a prophetess,” is in Israel, and in the church of Thyatira respectively, one would have to ask oneself whether there is any Scriptural legitimacy to the claim that a sister in the Lord can be called a Jezebel and whether the same name could not be equally applied to brothers? There are no other biblical references to Jezebel whatsoever other than in these two contexts. One as the wife of a king of Israel and the other as a woman in the Church of Thyatira in the first century, culminating in the development of a 4th century Mother of Harlots.
Queen Jezebel had many characteristics, but her chief sin was the facilitation and practise of idolatry in the Land of Samaria – not by commanding it, but by fully embracing it herself and using her authority as a Queen to seduce prophets into serving Baal. It was King Ahab who built the temple to Baal thereby laying the foundation physically. Herein lies a profound reality. A King Ahab gives rise to a physical outcome, and a Queen Jezebel gives rise to a spiritual decline of God’s servants, the prophets. Although Queen Jezebel acted against God, she did not act against her husband. She was fully supportive of his intentions as well as her own intentions. They stood in agreement. Not against one another. Weak as King Ahab was, and as powerful as Queen Jezebel is perceived to be, his weakness was strong as a King in commanding the building of a temple to Baal and placing about the temple Asherim groves. Jezebel’s strength was seduction by the authority of a Queen, and ability to direct the prophets and thereby to seduce them. When we come onto speaking about demonic activity, and use the term, a Jezebel spirit, we will have to keep hold of this principle. Otherwise, we will attribute the term to men and women unjustly, and in that we will cause others to stumble. The key to understanding Queen Jezebel is in understanding authority. Without authority, there is no real Jezebel activity. This may be the authority of pastors, prophets, mothers, fathers and it may also be the authority of elders. In the churches, this would be its principle meaning because it is from households that elders are proven, and qualify for service in the churches.
The woman Jezebel who called herself a prophetess in the church of Thyatira exhibited her chief activity as teachings, leading to immorality and eating food sacrificed to idols. Jezebel in both of these two instances was able to achieve an outcome with the complicity and authority of men. She also had the authority of a Queen. She did not act alone or compel anyone however into her principle activity. Neither account is explicitly sexual, yet in the green trees (Asherah) of many nations, such idolatry existed openly and was often accompanied by sexual degeneracy. King Ahab was clearly in authority, but so were the prophets who followed Queen Jezebel, because they were appointed by God generationally to speak for God according to households and as God chose. In Thyatira, these men were elders of the church. Without the abrogation of the authority of men, there can be no Jezebelic activity in the first instance. Moreover, the men must themselves yield that authority of their own free will, be that through the seduction of doctrines or through the lust of the flesh.
There is no real Biblical evidence to support the idea that a sister is more likely to become or else be of that same spirit than a brother is less liable to be affected by it. As the prophets were overwhelmingly men, and the bishop of the church would have been a man, as would all the ministers of the Word in that church, so it is much more likely that men and not women are more to be held in the grip of Jezebel teachings, despite knowing the truth, than are women, who corrupt the truth by claiming to be teachers. As well as being bishops, the men in Thyatira were also heads of their own households, yet they are nevertheless willing to suffer that which stands in direct contradiction to all truth and amounts to a denial of God in practising a sin that is primarily characterised by idolatry. In being of this mind, these men are the party held accountable by God. The prophets of Baal acting by the governance of Queen Jezebel didn’t twiddle their thumbs and just look on. They provided a basis for authenticating Queen Jezebel’s idolatrous desires and thus became false prophets, leading the people astray into idolatry and its consequence. I wouldn’t care to speculate as to what these prophets and elders did in their bodies, other than to recognise that they were seduced (not deceived), resulting in idolatry, which is spiritual fornication.
Everything else that may be said about Jezebel is extra-biblical. This does not mean that what is said is wrong when we speak of Jezebel teachings or else brothers and sisters being inclined to a so-called Jezebelic attitude, but it does mean that if what we are seeking to demonstrate, falls beyond a straightforward biblical account, it must be stated as not of Scripture and therefore Scripture must not be used to prove it.
It would be possible to speak about demonic spirits which are said to be Jezebel in character, and it would even be possible to talk about the “spirit of Jezebel”. But if we did not acknowledge that this name when used in this way, especially in the case of saying, “the spirit of Jezebel,” is a vanity of Satan, we would have failed to understand that today, as at the beginning of Satan’s deception of Eve, it is a title given to a strong spirit acting wickedly in order to produce a particular outcome. It is also a conceit of rank giving rise to spirits which follow Satan in producing that outcome in obedience to Satan.
Again this is not to say that it is wrong to comprehend the name, but if we did not recognise that all spiritual wickedness can be bound by binding Satan we would not have understood that all direct wickedness is centred and outworked through Satan himself. We fight not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of wickedness in heavenly places. The chief amongst which principalities and powers is Satan.
There is a reality in the life of the believer, in that many believers find it difficult to draw a distinction between experience, discernment and the revelation of God. The practical outworking of this is to know when the things we hold true are grounded in experience, and when they are rooted in revelation. It may also be that we would need to know when something is valid objectively. And whilst all real knowledge must in finality be grounded in experience, giving rise to intuition, there is a fine line between discernment, intuition and revelation of God. Moreover, experience is not to be made light of, because we must experience truth in our own lives, and not only hold to doctrines and teachings. If we do not experience truth, then we do not have truth at all, but merely knowledge. Moreover, knowledge is not the same as experience. As with most things in life, separating knowledge from experience is the point at which deliverance comes. If what we have is intimate knowledge derived from experience, and not real knowledge, given by revelation of God, then the result will be an obsession and not faith. There is one very unique example of this which we can learn from. This is the instance of the Apostle Paul going to Jerusalem. for the first time as a believer. “When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple.” Acts 9:20
Imagine the Apostle Paul arriving in Jerusalem, the city which saw the conversion of three thousand men and women in one day, the city of the Pentecostal outpouring, and the city having the apostles and the prophets? Yet the believers who had the benefit of all that wealth of spiritual reality could not discern or accept that Paul was a believer. In short, their true minds stood against their ability to recognise the truth of Paul’s radical born again experience. The thing that would have separated the disciples in Jerusalem from their flesh, in that instance, would have been the revelation of God. It was their prior knowledge of Paul’s persecution of believers in Jerusalem that informed their minds, and discernment was defeated. Not even intuition served to inform them as to whether Paul had become a true believer. Experience defeated discernment and informed intuition. Further, to believe that experience gives rise to real knowledge is to make experience a teacher. If experience is a teacher, then Christ is of no benefit whatsoever. On the other hand, all real knowledge must be encountered in the life of the individual. Otherwise, knowledge has become a dead thing.
If we were to talk about being born again, then this would be a simple thing to understand. We could speak about the need to be born again, for example – and we could talk about what being born again means. Yet unless we are born again, we cannot experience what it’s like to walk in newness of life. If however we had what we believed to be a born again experience, and had no knowledge of what is meant by the term “to be born from on high” then any experience could be taken to mean being born of God, yet could be no more than demonic activity, or else fleshy minds. Experience is not a teacher, and knowledge cannot impart life. Experiencing demonic activity does not teach us what these things mean unless we are first grounded in a biblical and proper understanding of demonic activity – even then experience can be a poor teacher. Sadly believers are quite content to listen to anyone who claims to have knowledge of demonic realities but do not realise how flawed experience is as a basis for understanding spiritual wickedness. On the other hand, the overwhelming majority of those who set themselves up as teachers, may be entirely lacking in true knowledge because the Lord Himself has not made these things a basis for ministry. The emphasis is always wrong, and the result is always vanity. So in speaking about Jezebel, we must first ground that meaning in Scripture, and limit its meaning accordingly. If we go beyond the Scripture, we are into the realm of vain imagination regardless as to our real or imagined experiences.
I believe the single most common mistake that we can make in seeking to understand wickedness is in failing to make a distinction between angels, demons and men. In failing to make this simple distinction the church has made ruin of spiritual warfare, and thereby has given ground to demonic influence on a scale that is unimaginable in its effect.
Another reality that believers especially fail to recognise is that Satan has only one ambition. He is not concerned with many things. He is concerned with just one thing. And when that one thing is put into place by agreement with men and angels, he will have his forty-two months reign according to a measure of God Himself. Today that agreement of men is complete. To that end, his present activity is in the heavens, and men and demons are fully in agreement with his ambitions on the earth. As in the ancient world, they have sealed it with the sacrifice of their children on the altar of their own ambition. Though men do not yet comprehend its meaning, they have murdered hundreds of millions of innocent lives from the womb, and laid down the most abhorrent testimony that they are now in agreement with Satan, and against God.
More souls have been cast into death, from their mother’s wombs, in agreement with angels, demons and men, in the last forty years, than all men, women and children put together, have died in all wars through all time. If you ask yourself what the overwhelming basis for this destruction of life is, I can tell you plainly that it is to establish the rights of women, who were unjustly pressed by men, for the purpose of establishing both men and women as god in their own lives, in defiance of God. It is the breaking down of the relationship between men and women, of marriage and of natural affection. It is the denial of the conditions that God Himself established in Eden and close thereto, in which men are created first, then the women – in that Eve was deceived and Adam was not, in that marriage is one man to one woman for life. It is that men should sweat for their keep in labouring upon the earth and that women should experience a limiting effect and restraint through childbirth and the bringing up of children. All these things are now increasingly rejected in many nations, and very nearly every church in the Western World. This rejection is philosophical and political, and it is spiritual and real. The church has been at the forefront of this effect through time by standing with those who have cried “injustice,” little realising that despite the injustices of men, that form of governance, of men and women, is set down in creation and the Scriptures of God; in a restraint in their own bodies. This was God’s doing, and not men’s at all. It has been the outworking of this reality in the flesh of natural men, and women that have given rise to injustice and therefore does not of itself represent a real ambition of all men. To predicate the breakdown of familial relationships, of men and women on injustice, leads to a more demonic reality than mere disobedience of children. In the end, it leads to the removal of all gender meanings, and thus the removal of the order of God in creation.
It is crucial to understand that there is no such thing as a female angel, despite the fact that men have focused on the rebellion of women as an evidence of a Jezebel spirit. There is no such thing as a female demon, and there are no female authorities in heaven. And whilst it is also essential to understand that the angels were not given in marriage, they can nevertheless manifest themselves as biological males. This happened in the past, and Jude tells us that they are imprisoned in the deepest regions of hell, in blackest darkness, in their own bodies and in chains, waiting for their judgement. It is also necessary to point to the central reason and effect of deception by means of a female presentation, by demons. It ought to be obvious to anyone claiming discernment, but the reason is really very simple. It has to do with overthrowing creation. And so when we speak of a Jezebel spirit, in relation to the ultimate ambition of Satan to be worshipped as god, we are not talking of an overthrow of governments, or even households in that crude sense, we are speaking about the throwing down of the very order of creation with a view to defeating any possibility or inclination to resist Satan’s ambition to be the god of this world in visibility of men, women and children.
Where men and women are rendered powerless to specify gender meanings beyond the privacy of their own homes, then all that which lies outside the home becomes informed by gender neutrality. When Queen Jezebel took the seals of Ahab, king of Israel, and wrote as though she were the king, we always jump on this single instance of counterfeiting government and say that this is the characteristic of Jezebel. Whereas, this action was reflective of Ahab’s mental weakness in desiring that which in law he could not have. Having sought to purchase the vineyard of Naboth by lawful means and was refused, Ahab should have accepted the meaning of the law and stepped away from that desire. If he had upheld the law, emotionally he would not have given ground for his wife to use the legal instrument of the king’s seal to order the death of Naboth, and thus the removal of his vineyard to the king’s house. What is happening in the world, and therefore by acceptance in the churches also, is the removal of male and female in law, so that we now have male, female and transgender.
Transgender meanings speak of neither male nor female, but rather both male and female. It is both the male and the female body, and the homosexual male and female mind. It is the male mind given over to an unnatural desire for another man, and it is a denial of being a man, in order to appear to be a psychological and physical woman.
This latter designation is precisely in keeping with the activity of demons and their whole ambition to present as either male or female, or else as themselves, being neither male nor female. Transgender is a perfect and precise cover for demonic activity in visibility of children, who are pressed to a confused mind and an inability to resist its deeper meaning. This is why Jezebel activities have almost ceased in the Western World because that work is done. Not that transgender men were the ambition, but rather that transgender people represent the acceptance in societies that there is no more an immutable distinction between male and female.
All that which represents the difference in societies historically, between men and women, is at once covered over by the necessity of embracing transgender men. The effect is that there is no longer a need for a Queen jezebel to take the king’s seal and to fabricate a demand. Today a Queen jezebel can speak as though she is the king because there is neither male nor female in law, as far as the right of the individual is concerned in the public place, and in private by reason of calling upon the courts to make a judgement where asked for. All law today is to do with human rights and not the rights of men and women, save for in the persistent driving of misandristic and misogynist agendas, where gender is only important as a political expression of choice, and has nothing more to do with the order of creation by God or the physical restraints of gender realities.
That way of working, in a supposed Jezebel spirit of undermining and counterfeiting male authority, is now behind us in the Western World. Moreover, usurping creation was only the mind of Satan as a means to an end. In that sense the term Jezebel spirit is meaningful, but even now that way of working in Europe has been concluded. So it stands to reason that those who speak of these things have learned to redirect their use of that term, and their claim as to what a Jezebel spirit means. Instead of going back to a proper biblical understanding, which is of course incapable of supporting a ministry, these same men have gone on to express this spirit in terms that could almost be true of any spirit of wickedness. They have missed reality by so far, proving by that one action, that they are as likely to discern spiritual wickedness, as they being chiefly males, are going to wake on the morrow and find that they have become females. In fact, the most common distinction that will be made nowadays is a distinction of intellect rather than ambition. So that it is exceptional works of wickedness that are now attributed to Jezebel rather than understanding that the spiritual ambition behind that spiritual name was always centrally grounded in Satan’s own ambition to be worshipped as god. To that end, nothing has changed. Finally, that is where we should be discerning realities and not in an endless allusion to male and female spirits or else male and female legal and political aspirations in the churches.
The other falsehood that is promoted is that the spirit of Jezebel is especially afraid of the prophetic ministry. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was Jezebel, the wife of king Ahab who established with her husband, in the sight of Israel, a prophetic priesthood devoted to Baal. And it was Jezebel who swore that by the setting of the sun and its rising, she would have Elijah murdered for his stand on Mount Carmel and the destruction of her prophetic priesthood. Not only is this spirit not afraid of the Prophetic Office, but it is devoted to corrupting that Office for an end of Satan. What we could say is that Satan is fearful of all who take the name of Christ and walk in the Spirit in obedience to the Father, including the prophets. That could include in its number children. A small child with no more knowledge than a love of God in Christ Jesus could defeat in a single instance the whole ambition of Satan in their lives by simply standing in that love and obedience to God. The thing that is defeated is idolatry. And it was idolatry that lay at the root ambition of Jezebel.
When Elijah finally pressed that issue to its destruction, his words were “how long will you be in two minds.” We would do well to ask ourselves the same question. Sadly few will even give consideration to their double mindedness.

Though we speak of demons, and in doing so, we are talking about unclean spirits; men and women are just as capable of becoming demonic in their own bodies and minds, as the demons themselves were judged in their own bodies and minds for their own disobedience.

And when that one thing is put into place by agreement with men or angels, he will have his forty-two months reign according to a measure of God Himself. Today that agreement of men is complete. To that end, his present activity is in the heavens, and men and demons are fully in agreement with his ambitions on the earth.
The commodity of Satan is the souls and bodies of men, women and children. When fathers and mothers dedicate their children to death, they are living proof of their intention to be his commodity in their own bodies. When we agree as a nation to destroy life, as an absolute right in law, for no more reason than inconvenience, predicated on alleged psychological wellbeing, or else economic prosperity, we have become a nation of murderers in no less a meaning than those who in the days of Jezebel, passed their children through the fires of Baal as evidence of their service to Moloch (2 Chr. 28:3, 33:6; Jeremiah 7:31, 19:2–6). Yet we make this murder of unborn children a medical procedure, when its actual name is foeticide.
These two areas of understanding, of men and demons, and of Satan’s chief ambition to be worshipped as god, are so simple that to miss their meaning will render everything else worthless and purposeless. If we are minded to help others, or even ourselves to experience true liberty as children of God, then we must lay hold of a proper, simple and definite understanding of the reality of this world in which we live. Trying to lay hold of heavenly meanings, or Adamic meanings, or even the rebellion of Satan, without laying hold of the reality of the world is rather like trying to understand how to practise medicine without taking account of the body.
This is because whilst the heavens are implicated in Satan’s activities, his real ambition is to be the god of this world. His ambition to be like God in the heavens, was long ago defeated. He will never attempt that blasphemy again. In the instant he desired to be like God he was cast down. And the Lord Jesus spoke about this event. This does not mean, however, that he is not drawing the companies of heaven away in a promise and false hope. It does mean that the promise will not be worked out in the heavens themselves, it will be worked out on this earth, in this world of wickedness. It is a false hope because its boundary of influence and its dominion will be for a period of just forty-two months.
We must understand that this falling like light, or else casting down from the sides of the north in heaven, speaks of the throne of God ascending in visibility of that place, but this does not mean that Satan was cast out of heaven. He was cast down as a streak of light from the sides of the north, as lightning flashes from the east to the west. He is yet to be cast out of heaven completely. Moreover, he will not be cast out of heaven until the appointed hour. In the Scripture, we are told that it will be Michael who wages war against him and only then will the sphere of his influence be confined to the world. It stands to reason that Satan already comprehends this himself. That is why we are told in Revelation that when he is cast down it is with great anger, knowing that his time is short. As such we can reasonably understand that he also knows that his original ambition to be like God, is limited in its sphere and outworking. Today there are companies of angels who are being led astray by Satan in the halls of the north and these companies, though numbered in their millions of angels, represent the sum of Satan’s heavenly influence. There are no more principalities that are to rebel; that did not rebel in the secret of their hearts aeons ago. There are also two other spheres of influence that Satan has.
The first of these represents his original rebellion. This means the silence of the heavens, in principalities and powers of wickedness in heavenly places, but it more uniquely represents those unclean spirits that are called demonic. The difference between a demon and a rebellious angel is the difference between life and death. In rather the same way that the distinction between the soul and the body is a difference between life and death. And whilst the soul itself may be imprisoned by death, for the one who is without Christ, the soul is still an indestructible life, even though it is taken captive by sin and death and will eventually be confined to the Lake of Fire, which is the second death. In short, the soul lives forever. Whether in the presence of God or else cast away from His presence, the soul is an indestructible life. The body, on the other hand is to return to dust, and the effect of sin and death is physical destruction of the body. The soul is not destroyed by death, whereas the body is destroyed by death.
So it is with demons. Those that are called demons are those that in former times were judged along with Satan, but unlike Satan, they were destroyed physically. Their bodies were removed instantaneously, and they were imprisoned in the regions that are called Death and Hell. Satan was not altered outwardly; rather he was judged from within by a consuming fire of God, and his inner life was destroyed. This undoubtedly had the effect of destroying his ability to present the light of God, so that his former condition as the “bright shining one” was destroyed, and he became the darkness of this present age. If we read about Satan, the false prophet and the beast in Revelation chapter sixteen, we also read that all three of them are empowered by strong demons. These demons are described as being like green frogs coming out of their mouths. It is easy to miss the fact that Satan, the False Prophet and the antichrist are empowered by demonic spirits and to think that Satan would have no need for such an energising effect.
To understand this is simply a case of understanding that his interior world of supernatural power, as a covering cherub, is removed from him. In short, Satan is completely powerless to act as a covering cherub with supernatural abilities beyond those left to him in going about his business according to the commandment of God. In the end, his power, according to the expression, “the prince of the power the air,” is in fact demons, who have long ago been judged in their bodies.
It is this fact alone that accounts for their ability to possess men and angels. Angels can influence men’s bodies, they can press men’s bodies through the elements, and they can read men’s minds, but whilst they are yet in their bodies they cannot possess men. Only Satan has been given the ability to transgress this boundary, and we see it at the supper table of the Lord when Satan entered into Judas for an exceptional work of wickedness. In all other instances of possession, it is the demonic realm that has the ability to possess others, by reason of having no physical restraint of their bodies. The air does not mean the heavens, neither does this term prince of the power of the air mean the air itself. The air belongs to God, but the power thereof is under the influence and direction of Satan. The power of the air is the demonic hosts that are presently dispossessed of their bodies and are awaiting their judgement. Yet at this hour they are under the direction of Satan and have no way of escaping this influence and drive. It is for this reason that there are different levels of wickedness amongst the demons. Not all demons by any means find their present condition a thing to be taken lightly or with an attitude of full and complete agreement with Satan. They are pressed by Satan, driven by him in rather the same way a king can drive his armies into battle even when that action has been declared lost by the prophets of God. In speaking about Satan, therefore, we are talking about angels, and in speaking about angels we talk about heavenly beings, dwelling in the heavens, and exercising their spiritual powers, by limitation and purpose of God to the end that God Himself permits and ordains. In speaking about demons, we are speaking about those who were formerly drawn into a worship of Satan, giving him the glory, honour and praise that belonged to God alone.
Their judgement reflects his core ambition to be like God. They agreed with it in their own bodies and directed their praise to Satan, and away from God. Thus they were judged in their own bodies and suffered death. This is at a time before the creation of men, and it represents heavenly events and not world events as we know it. Then there is the immediate sphere of influence and outworking of these things, and in speaking about that, we are talking about men. This is because the way God has chosen to deal with Satan and all of his ambitions is by men and not angels.
The sum of what one could say about God’s plan for bringing Satan into judgement, and of reconciling all things, both in heaven on the earth, unto Himself, is to say that it is the shed blood of Christ Jesus that makes it real. This foreknowledge of God is demonstrated in Eden, in the promise of the seed, “He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.” Through Christ, that promise is fulfilled in His own body, and it becomes ours in experience by faith. Knowledge without experience is worthless. But if we have both knowledge and the equal experience we have the evidence of true faith. It is essential to keep this practical reality in mind when speaking about wickedness, whether in heaven, on the earth or under the earth. Be those angels, men or demons. We must not move beyond the reality of Christ’s death and resurrection as the sole basis for experiencing God’s answer for wickedness. So if we must press on to others’ claims about having a supposed Jezebel spirit, we at least ought to understand what we are talking about before we make such offensive assertions. There are some in the body of Christ who can see into these things because it has pleased the Father to permit it. Yet it has to be said that those who make their ministry on deliverance are profoundly mistaken and deluded if they insist on attributing to Satan that which is removed from him through Christ.
When Jesus taught His disciples about these things, it was to establish the facts and therein to determine the effect. Treading upon serpents and scorpions is the effect, and the fact is Christ crucified in His own body for sin. There is nothing more that any believer needs to know, than this profound reality. If others, like myself, have pressed into these things to a seeing into the halls of the north in heavenly places, or else into hell itself, then this is because we live in exceptional times of wickedness, when heaven is to be rent of all rebellion, both Satan and his armies, and the earth is to become the theatre of final rebellion against God. In that outcome, it is men who play the key roles and not demons and angels. We really need to lay hold of that reality. If men were not wicked themselves, and against God, then Satan would have no power on the earth at all. If demons were not entirely driven by Satan, then their ranks would have been denuded of all but the most wicked unclean spirits, aeons ago. In such a reality, all would flee from their own disobedience in a desperate hope of the mercy of God, if they were able to. Unless we can see that the beast of revelation and the false prophet, are men born of women and raised in natural and reasonable circumstances, then we would have missed two-thirds of the reality of what rebellion against God actually means in this age. It is men pressed by wicked philosophy into believing and determining in their own bodies that they are serving God, even when they are pressed by rebellious inclinations.
It is this alone that forms the basis for the Man of Sin and the false prophet to become a reality. That Satan is also included in that ambition is a reflection of the willingness of men to be wicked themselves, as much as it is a goal of Satan to become god in the midst of men.
At these end of days, it is Christians and not unbelievers who are making way for the beast and the false prophet. Satan cannot magic up the hearts and minds of men. Nor can he operate outside of real authority.
The only men and women who have the real power of God on this earth, regarding spiritual realities, are they that are born again. Which is why I often state the fact plainly – the most hateful, harmful people I have ever met by a long way are those Christians who will not lay hold of the mercy and goodness of God – who set themselves up as judge and jury of others, and of whom I say they have no true compassion – nor do they intend mercy unless they can first drag a man into the streets and humiliate him before others. Only then will they feign a kindness that amounts to a cruel pharisaic spirit. They judge others unto rejection and imagine in their self-appointed positions that they are doing God’s will. Their hatred can be driven home for no other reason than doctrine. Their actions can be as simple a matter as turning their backs to their brethren and teaching others how to do the same thing. Children are left without friends and fellowship. Or they may stand in agreement with others and with their mouths speak death over those they judge. You may do no more than stand in disagreement with them, and you will become the object of their venom. Or else any number of other such instances. Such as these gossip about, lie against, bite and devour other believers, and in doing so they cause many to stumble, including pastors. Those who stumble because of these things become prey to false teachers who prepare the way of Satan in their lives. In this, Satan gains a foothold in the lives of believers and through the wrong exercise of the authority of the name of Christ, they are bringing into visibility that which no nation, tribe or family can even comprehend, let alone bring into effect. The response to this exceptional circumstance is an end time ministry. That ministry is necessarily prophetic, and by my understanding that ministry will become more visible through time as believers themselves increasingly reject even the clearest working of Christ to empower the church to make herself ready for His return. There is an epidemic of rebellion and independence amongst believers to such an extent that unless you flatter believers, they simply cannot and will not receive sound instruction. If you do flatter and puff up, then the word given is like casting pearl before swine. The words are simply trampled under their feet.
Judgement by means of the Prophetic Office will mean judgement of God’s House and not judgement of the nations. In the end, it will involve some believers falling away from the faith and pressing into blackest darkness, regardless of the efforts of those who are called to minister in this hour. It is Israel who historically murdered the prophets and not unbelievers. Make that mark well because these are the times we live in. That is why I do not take too much account of alleged Jezebel spirits anymore in increasing numbers of believers. That working of Satan has already been fulfilled, and its outworking is fully visible to the one who would understand these things. There will be no repenting, no turning back and no change. There have been exceptional and truly godly men and women who have both set an example and have warned in a spirit of loving kindness for generations. Their words have fallen on rebellious ears.
One could say that Jezebel and its confederacy of effects are removed and has been given entrance into the halls of the north for another effect, and men and women who take the name of Christ have taken its place in a determination to live wickedly and perversely in this present age. What need of Jezebel to harm the household of God, when the household it very willing and able to harm itself? In such a circumstance spending your days warning others of that which is already upon us is rather like Noah speaking of the flood from the belly of the Arc itself, as the flood overwhelms all life outside. Even if the one perishing could hear the warning, it would be too late by far in that hour. It is pure vanity. And it is pure vanity without a doubt to speak of repentance to a house that is not in any part comprehending of its sins.
There is little stomach for a truly righteous life set apart for Christ in many places. When one finds it the discovery is splendid, but it is increasingly difficult to find despite all the intelligent talk that is set against those who are appointed by God to minister to this effect. Make no mistake; this will not mean brethren dwelling together in agreement. It will mean an opposition the like of which by a full measure, precedes the Great Tribulation, by as many days as the Great Tribulation is appointed to run its course. In the end it will mean an unexpected and deeply unpleasant journey to the ravine. It will mean a household divided against itself in the visibility of men and nations. It will mean irredeemable apostasy of many churches and true rebellion. It will mean persecution and tribulation.
There is no excuse for throwing away one’s rational mind when speaking about the so-called spirit of Jezebel, yet this is what many do. Take for instance the following comment:
“Another amazing thing I have seen occur with this kind of spirit is when it seemingly wants to let its guard down when the host is having their picture taken. Every once in while what will happen is that this spirit will literally manifest right through the person’s face and eyes, and it then gets captured by the camera. You will thus see a real, live, Jezebel spirit captured on the actual photo itself. I do not know if this spirit is doing this just to flaunt itself, or if it wants to see what it looks like through a person’s face, but it is quite amazing how often this actually happens. I remember the first time I had one captured on a photo, you were able to see partly into its personality through the person’s eyes. What I saw was not only pure evil and pure hate, but I saw an old, ancient spirit with a high degree of intelligence and cunning in it. You could also see that it had a very seductive quality in its personality, and that it would use that seductive quality to lure people into its web so it could eventually eat them up alive and devour them. You could also see that this thing has absolutely no mercy in its personality and it would kill you in a second if it could do so. This thing is as creepy as it gets.”
This unbelievable comment is intended to teach us how to recognise and deal with a spirit of Jezebel. And another equally incredible man calls this expert advice. In my own experience and reading of the Scriptures, I find no basis whatsoever for any direct communication with demonic spirits, beyond commanding them in the Lord’s name to depart. Not once in more than three decades has an evil spirit sought to communicate with me by means of another mind or body. The fact that some people are possessed is not something to go looking for either, as though somehow demonic possession were a Hollywood performance. It never ceases to amaze me just how much of a fuss some people make of demonic activity. The Lord made no such fuss, and in the one single instant that demonic spirits communicated with the Lord directly, it was out of fear that the hour of their torment had come. In every other instance, the Lord actually forbade demons to speak precisely to prevent them revealing who he was.
The only real explanation for the show that some brethren make when ministering to demoniacs is that they are making a show in order to draw attention to themselves who by reason of their own internal fear naturally present a view that actually suits the demon itself. Fear begets fear.
“It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, “These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation.” She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out at that very moment.” Acts 16:16-18
Demons are well able, to tell the truth, in fact, they can use the truth to bring attention to themselves in ways that seem quite remarkable given the reality of these things. Far from being intelligent, most demons are rather unintelligent, and like children they follow their impulses, often to their own disadvantage. We also have the instance of the seven sons of one Sceva, who were casting out demons in the name of Jesus. And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognise Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leapt on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.” Given that, these seven sons of Sceva were professional exorcists that must have been pretty embarrassing.
Of these seven sons, we read, “But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” These seven sons apparently knew the name of Jesus, and they clearly used that name as part of their exorcist activities. Yet in the very same place that the slave girl was exercising a spirit of divination, declaring the truth concerning Paul and the disciples from Ephesus, so we have the sons of Sceva declaring the name of Jesus in casting out demons. They failed, and Paul succeeded. Their efforts turned into a pantomime, and they ended up being beaten and left naked. Paul’s deliverance of the slave girl led to him and Apollos being taken in chains, beaten by the authorities and concluded in winning the jailer to Christ and salvation. Some would say that the example of the sons of Sceva is unfair because it points to their being unbelievers. We also have the instance of the disciples trying to stop one who was not even following Jesus, from casting out demons. “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name; and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow along with us.” But Jesus said to him, “Do not hinder him; for he who is not against you is for you.”
As far as I am concerned the difference in these examples is simple. Those who make a ministry of exorcism make a show of it, and those who simply do the work of Christ, whether they are known to the other disciples or not, succeed on no other basis than the name of Jesus. The demons know it, and they just love their part. Give a demon a stage, and it will play its role to the full. Require it to be silent by pointing its way to the abyss, and it will fall silent and remain silent.Yet see what madness prevails when we make of demonic activity more than the Scripture or the Son of God made of it.
“If you are the one who is going to be casting the demons out of someone, then the first thing you will need to be aware of is your own personal slate with the Lord. God is not looking for absolute total perfection from you. But if by chance you have any type of heavier unconfessed sin in your life that you are still engaging in, and you still have not got it properly taken care of with the Lord through confession and repentance, then you may have to step back and let someone else do the deliverance. If you don’t, here is what could happen to you. If for example you are out committing adultery behind your wife’s back and no one knows about it but you and God, then what could happen right in the middle of an actual deliverance is that the demons will be able to say exactly what your sin is out loud right through the person’s mouth where everyone in the room will be able to hear it – both fully exposing you and embarrassing you right in front of everyone who will be in the room with you.”
If you can believe that advice, then you will know nothing but confusion and misdirection because adultery is a sin against the body of Christ. It is almost incomprehensible that such advice would even be necessary or else meaningful. If a person is engaged in demonic deliverance ministry, as these fellows claim to be, and one is committing adultery, that person is never in ten thousand years going to be able to exercise the name of Jesus with true faith. In fact, if you took this advice and accepted their understanding of demonic activity, you would also have to see that adultery is a basis for demonic possession. In such an irrational and confused understanding of demonic activity, we are giving the demons the upper hand and making ourselves the fools. No such ministry is either necessary or desirable. The simple truth is this. If you preach Christ crucified for sin, the old man crucified in Him by faith, and repentance from sin, then in that reality men and women will find it in themselves to move away from the influences of the devil all by themselves. The one will follow on from the other. And it is only in instances where there is a true and full possession that deliverance would become necessary. Even then this is not a deliverance of demonic spirits because they must leave the instant the Holy Ghost moves in, it is a deliverance of the root that gave rise to their possession that needs to be dealt with.
In the case of believers, there is no possibility of real physical possession. There is an instance of giving ground for oppression, through thought projection, such as impure thoughts, perhaps even hateful and malevolent thoughts. But physical possession by demonic spirits is a thing for those who have no true life relationship with God. And even in that instance, the overwhelming majority of men and women are not possessed to the extent that they are rendered volitionally dead.
Those who claim that demons can possess the bodies of believers make that claim based on a false interpretation of the Scriptures. And whilst they are correct in speaking about spirit, soul and body, they are profoundly wrong in speaking about the Holy Spirit possessing or being present in the spiritual component of men alone, as though a man were not unified in his current animate state of being. When the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:13 spoke about eating food sacrificed to idols, he was speaking about that which goes into the belly. Yet Paul expressly tells in that same passage of 1 Corinthians 6 that the body (σω̂μα) is a member of Christ (v15) and in (v19), Paul says that the body (σω̂μα) is the temple of the Holy Spirit. In 3:16-17 Paul has already told the Corinthians that their bodies (σω̂μα) are a temple of the Holy Spirt and that if they destroy the temple of God, God will destroy them. The idea that demons can possess a believer from the inside is a total and utter lie from the pit of hell. The only thing one can really say about this falsehood is that it is predicated on experience and observation, rather than discernment. In fact, those who believe that born again Christians can be inwardly possessed, also believe that they can be possessed so well that their whole being, soul and body can be manipulated and used without their knowledge. In short the claim is that the will, the mind, the emotions – the central nervous system, the brain, the body and the whole man, apart from the spirit, can be controlled in such fine detail that the individual Christian would remain unaware of the presence of unclean spirits unless someone (like them) comes along and delivers them. Nice! And apparently, it is pride to believe that you cannot be possessed, which then forms a guarantee that you cannot be delivered. Real nice. And so you can see why the brother who wrote the comment about the ancient spirit taking a peek at itself through the instrument of a photograph is so advantageous. It must be really gratifying when the ancient spirit of Jezebel takes a peek. I wonder whether it insists her host takes a look at the photograph every day or just on special days? I wonder whether it demands large or small prints? Experience is a poor teacher and leads to all manner of problems without discernment. In that reality, it is evident why the Holy Spirit Himself imparts a gift of the discerning of spirits. If left to experience or men’s minds the outcome will be chaos. It has to be self-evident that if demonic spirits, be that Jezebel or any other, manifests in such a visible way, then discernment would not even be necessary. The reality, however, is that you will be hard pressed to find any real documented and corroborated evidence of this kind of events outside of extremely poor and mostly uneducated countries. The reason for this is because actual possession cannot easily happen unless the one being possessed is willing to be possessed. Given that natural men and women do not desire to be possessed, there has to be a basis for it. In developed countries those who reckon to have deliverance ministries overcome this fact by laying down what are seen as legal rights of possession. This can take the form of generational curses established on the ground of God’s laws, or else it can take the form of personal sins, that are so gross, that sin forms the basis for possession.
In speaking about a willingness to be possessed, one would have to wonder who could be of such a mind. An obvious candidate would be a person who believes that they are receiving the spirit of their god as a blessing. In this circumstance, a person would have to fall into a receptive frame of mind before possession could take place. Another clear basis for possession is where a person is practising witchcraft, sorcery and necromancy. By which I do not simply mean a person whose own spirit, albeit dead towards God, is very much in tune with the demonic realm. Even in this instance possession has to be predicated on a willingness to be possessed, and that itself has to involve a process of yielding oneself and at the same time, exercising one’s own will. If this is not the case, the necromancer, witch or sorcerer would have no responsibility for their own actions before God. Moreover their actions, activities and sorceries would have no personal benefit either.
Why would anyone serve Satan knowingly and do so for no material gain? When Satan wanted Christ for his possession, he offered Him the glory and wealth of all the kingdoms of the earth.
As someone who was inclined towards demonic spirits from a very young age, I have always been aware of the reality of demons. As a child, they were fearful to me and rarely if ever seemed to be pleasant. As an adult, having given my life to serving Satan at the age of nineteen, I was supremely indifferent to demonic activity and can honestly say that between the age of nineteen and twenty-four years, when I was converted to faith in Christ, I didn’t even give a demon a single thought. I was however always mindful of Satan himself. Then on the very day I was saved I had the most lucid demonic dream imaginable. It was very much a prophetic dream of the kind that closely mirrors those that God permits in order to show us something or other. I recall thinking on the morning when I awoke how it could have been possible to have had such a dream on the very night I was saved.
Around five days later, I had another dream. This time the dream was given by God, and its meaning had to do with deliverance from the power and influence of Satan. During this dream, I woke up and found myself very alert and very aware that I was in the midst of deliverance. The feeling was that of being laid open, rendered powerless and wholly vulnerable. It was a deeply unpleasant experience. I cried out to God from within my heart and found myself being comforted by the Holy Spirit, who assured me that what was happening to me was for my own benefit. So I yielded fully to the hand of God. At that moment of yielding, in a vision, I saw God reaching down into the very depth of my being and laying hold of what appeared to be a tree stump. The stump was blackened and gnarled. As I looked on, the Lord began to draw this tree stump from my being slowly, and as He did, I saw that the root, which was also blackened, gnarled and twisted, was at least twice the length as the stump. After a few moments of what I can only describe as a deliverance from a lifetime of going about with a mind to serve Satan, I was finally, fully and irreversibly delivered from such thoughts, and such an effect. Whether there was another meaning or another deeper reality to this deliverance I cannot say, but I knew with certainty that God had removed from my very being a root and branch of Satan. Over the next few days as I continued to fellowship with the Father, certain of God and Christ, Satan tried to press me with outward manifestations of power and presence, all of which I resisted in the Lord’s name.
I have meditated much on those first few days of salvation and the deeper meaning of what happened. Why did the Father permit Satan to assail me? For what purpose and for what benefit? In answering that question, I realise that its meaning lies at the very heart of who the Father is in His person, His goodness, His love and His unfathomable mercy and justice. God is good, He is merciful, He is righteous, He is holy, He is full of truth, He is full of light, He is just. God is Love. The very evidence of all that which is true of the Father can be understood by the fact that He makes a slave of no man. When Satan came to take back his ground for working in me, he found the most precious reality of all realities. By my own free choosing, I was able to say, “the Lord rebuke you Satan.”
These words are sufficient proof that God is truly our Father in heaven because they rise from a living relationship with the Father through Christ Jesus and are predicated on the power of one’s own will to reject evil and to lay hold of goodness. Whosoever the Son sets free, is free indeed. At nineteen years of age, or else even when I was three or four years of age I was still exercising my own volition to choose to respond to the air of demonic activity, and that too is a reality. The primary difference, however, is that in all these circumstances, when I fellowshipped with demonic hosts, or else set my mind on serving Satan, I was acting out of fear. A choice is the same in meaning as its effect – whether we are choosing out of fear, anger, or delusional happiness – as it is when we choose because we are free to do so. The relationship we have with the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ is in the first instance a life relationship. It is a new life, and we enter into a new creation. That very creation is only comprehended by Christ in His own person, spirit, soul and body.
There is nothing outside of Christ that will not pass away in the end. So if we are minded to comprehend the demonic realm and how it can appeal so well to the flesh, it is because if it did not appeal, then we would have no basis for embracing it with our whole being. Demons can cause fear, and in children this is especially true. In men, they are more likely to come as angels of light. In their appearance, in visions and dreams, in their countenance in men and women, and in their activities, they are, of all creatures, most likely to come as desirable and plausible agents of truth and power. When evil men choose the demonic, they do so believing that it is demonic. But when good men choose to embrace that which is evil they do so understanding that their power of choosing is only actually possible because their very lives have been purchased by the blood of Christ, by which means are they entered into a life relationship with the Father. You would imagine that all believers would comprehend this, and so why, would anyone describe a spirit as desirable, past or present. I have been more tempted by Satan since believing than I ever was in unbelief. I have understood the activity of demonic spirits more fully when I have been serving Christ than ever before I knew Christ. Indeed I can say with total clarity of mind that Jezebel and its confederate spirits, of witchcraft, Sophos & necrophilia are more desirable in their presentation as a follower of Christ than they ever were when I knew not Christ. In saying this, I have not stated that I desire them, however. Nevertheless let the saying be for the purpose of the Lord, and produce its intended outcome.
The only possibility that we are going to begin to understand demonic activity is when we fully understand who Christ is, and what He has accomplished in His own body on the cross. Without that confidence before the Father, we will live in fear, and the demonic realm will drive us by that means, through the air, in our minds, and by agreement, in our own bodies as well. But if we lay hold, in our understanding minds, that we are with the Father, in Christ Jesus, and that He is evermore our strength and shield, we will be able to go into the very gates of hell and stand with no difficulty whatsoever.
No demon will be able to possess us no matter how much they try, nor will they be able to drive us into sin, if our confidence is with the Father in Christ Jesus who ascended above all hosts, principalities and powers, and sat down at the right hand of the Father in the majesty of heavens. If we have Christ as our confidence, then we can press into the halls of the north and stand against true wickedness without fear or favour.
So what then of my own deliverance over thirty-four years ago? Was I possessed on that night, though I was already in Christ, until I was delivered, and my deliverance was the evidence of it? Or was I already seated in Christ at the right hand of the Father? I have no doubt that there are some who would say that both things are true. Yet I know that what the Father did by the Holy Spirit that night, had to do with causing me to see my true condition as a man who had given his life over to Satan of my own free will. In rather the same way as the blind man who was given his sight, who when asked, “what do you see,” explained that he saw men as trees, and then being given his sight entirely was ordered not to pass back to the village from which he had come. So by that same means was I ordered to go another way, and the ground upon which Satan would continue to labour was taken from me. As Jude speaks of certain men as autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, uprooted, so did the Father show me what my true human condition was. In drawing both root and branch the Father was drawing out the ground upon which Satan had laboured for more than two decades, and in so doing set me free from myself, and my own evil inclinations to serve Satan. There was no evil spirit at work in me in that hour, nor had Satan come back into the air to press me. But I can say with a mind of certainty that Satan has tried very hard to draw me back into his fold, and though I have stumbled many times and given ground for him to accuse me, yet it has not been possible to go that way. For that I truly thank the Lord. My only answer to his call is “I cannot serve you. It is not possible.”
I do not rebuke Satan or revile him in my own strength, nor do I take any comfort from knowing that he is ruined and that his end is the lake of fire. I do not forgive him for twenty-four years of misery and fear, nor am I asked to forgive him. I cannot take any delight in his destruction, nor in the destruction of they that are with him. In all things, I am humbled by his destruction and his great loss. He has fallen from a Covering Cherub to the one who opposes God, called Satan. I do not fear him, nor am I inclined to heed him. This is only possible because of the work of Christ on the cross, His life of obedience and His willingness to suffer and die to take away the sin of the world. If we sentimentalise truth, in the end, we will have made ruin of its real benefit. I accept the Father’s estimation of the flesh, and I do not seek to make an excuse for my own wicked inclinations and desires. Nor should you by refusing to see the flesh.
Regardless as to the reality of Satan, his angels or those unclean spirits that labour for his kingdom, there is no possibility that he, nor they, can remove anyone from Christ, nor can they possess that which is purchased by God Himself through the giving of His own Son. It is the Father’s full and firm intention to complete that which He has started, and all we have to do is remain. We do not have to spend our time concerned with thoughts of demonic activity, whether that be a spirit of Jezebel, or any other manner of spirit, not even of Satan himself. All we need to do is fix our eyes on Christ, and He will bring us to the Father’s House by His own authority and power. And if we are indeed called to stand against Satan on behalf of other men, or else to make ruin of his kingdom, to rob and steal his possessions, then it must be according to Christ and not according to our own experience of life, not even our great anger that he has laid waste to us as a wolf lays waste to the flock. It must be Christ Himself. In that mind, there is no need for a great show of things.
To repeat what I said earlier. A significant part of understanding demonic activity and possession has to be the meaning of possession. Its meaning has to be possession, or else it is not possession. If it is not possession, then it is something else. In speaking about possession, therefore, we have to differentiate between physical possession and psychical possession. I make the distinction as umbilical, trophic and possessive. Umbilical means connected from an external agent to an internal agent. The external agent is the mind of the demon, and the internal agent is the mind of a man. In this arrangement, mental telepathy or thought projection is essentially the thing being described. Trophic means to feed upon and direct. It is a demon triumphing over a man, but with a sensory element involved. It is a picture of a bird of the air landing on the porch of your house and building its nest. It is outward and physical to the house, but it is still the house. Finally, possessive demonic activity is not a simple perching on the porch; it is a breaking into the house and a taking possession. This is possession of the mind, and it has significant implications for the physical body in its outworking of the central nervous system. This is a true possession, and it is the most common in some countries.
The whole groundwork and the entire foundation in ministering liberty to others is Christ crucified for sin and raised for our justification before God. This means a public display of Satan, and it is the evidence that Satan is defeated. It is the obedience of Christ, Who gave His life, an acceptable sacrifice to God. It means the Lamb newly slain entering into heaven, and a new song, it means the true answer to the question “who is worthy to take the scroll and to break its seals”. It is Christ, and cannot be any other. This is the only basis, and the sole authority any man needs to be an overcomer, and witness the victory which is in Christ Jesus, in the visibility of men and angels. Even though a man’s sins may be many, yet the victory is sure.
I have witnessed many times believers trying to drag out of other believers the knowledge of sins with shouts of confess them all. Well, I have to tell you it makes no difference to demonic activity. They know perfectly well that Christ died to take away the sins of the world. They hate it, and they are afraid of its meaning. It is its meaning which we should press and not sins themselves. The most effectual way to minister the liberty of Christ to believers, who are oppressed, is to minister the full knowledge of Christ Himself. Those who hear these things, who are believers, will yield in their inner hearts to the only one who has authority to deliver them. In so doing they will soon begin to praise Him, and in that they will soon confess their sins freely; whether it be before men, or in the secret chamber of their hearts. Making a show for men and angels serves no purpose of itself.
It is by faith that we first believed into Christ, and it is by faith that we walk as believers. In that walk, the enemy of our souls undoubtedly has his ambition. Yet the key to understanding demonic issues is not precisely in understanding demons themselves. To do that one would have to have a way of knowing them and their activities. And the problem with that is really very simple. How would you come by such knowledge?
If we search the Scriptures, then we will find sufficient evidence of who Satan is, where he came from, his former estate as a Covering Cherub and his fallen estate as Satan. Ezekiel chapter twenty-eight and Isaiah chapter fourteen lay down that simple foundation of meaning. We also know from Ephesians chapter six that there are also principalities and powers of wickedness in heavenly places. And we know from the gospels and the book of Acts that there are evil spirits.
Taken in the simplicity of these things we can say that there are heavenly wicked hosts and there are demonic wicked hosts on the earth. In one instance Satan is given the name Beelzebul, which translates, “Lord of flies.” This designation is made in context of Jesus being accused of having an unclean spirit. This accusation was met by these words, “Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against itself falls.” If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand?
For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. “And if I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out?” The sons mentioned here by the Lord are of course the disciples, especially the seventy-two who were sent out to preach the Kingdom of Heaven, and came back excited that “even the demons” are subject to the Lord’s name. My point here, however, is that the designation Beelzebul is a reference to the prince of demons, and the demons are referenced by having the character and effect of flies.
In the passage from which the name Beelzebul is taken the Lord followed His rebuke with the words, “When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ “And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order. “Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.” What this statement by the Lord tells us is that the natural state or desire of demons is to be in watery places. Otherwise, they find no ability to rest. In other words, they find no sense of purpose or activity. The house is, of course, the human body. In the letter to the Ephesians, we read, “For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” We can see that there are world rulers, or else principalities and spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.
The thing these principalities rule over is the darkness of this world. And whereas Satan is called the “prince of the power of the air,” the air is not in mind, but the power thereof. That power is both evident in the activity of demons who pass through the air, and it is evident in the activity of heavenly hosts of wickedness far above the air, who can command the air in their place. If we are ever to settle the issue of demonic spirits, and what that means we have first to establish what a demon really is, and not simply imagine its meaning. The demoniac who was delivered of Legion had at least two thousand demons in him, and we know that the instant these demons were given leave to enter into the herd of pigs, these two thousand pigs rushed headlong into the sea and perished. Now if these demons had simply entered into the bodies of these pigs, such as into their bellies or else their torso, then these pigs would have been unaffected in their minds. It is because they entered into the minds of these pigs by entering into the very physiology of their neurological systems, by which I mean the brain itself, that they lost their minds and panicked. In the same way, as the poor man was out of his mind, so these pigs went out of theirs. We also see that it was into water that they were driven, and it is waterless places that demons fear.
The sea is the perfect repository of demonic spirits because it can hold them in an imprisonment from which they find no means of doing harm to others – neither can they find release from it. It is for this reason that we read in Revelation at the last judgement seat, the sea gives up the dead. And whilst some argue that this means those who have perished at sea, we do not read that the earth gives up the dead, even though the overwhelming number of mankind have returned to dust in the earth. The earth, or else Sheol beneath the earth, not the sea is the place of men who have entered into death. But the demons, who being without their own bodies, having been judged beforetime, have need of a body if they are to be at rest.
Of course whilst all of these things tell us something of the character and substance of demons, this does not yet tell us from whence they came or how it is that they can move from house to house and do their evil work. What these things do tell us, is that two thousand disobedient angels cannot possess a man. Nor do angels need to possess anyone. They have their own ethereal bodies and therefore they go about in their own person and their own bodies. Be they in heaven in a state of disobedience, or else be they on the earth acting wickedly, they do it in their own strength. Demons need men to fully operate because it is the bodies of men that serve as a house for their propinquity. We can also see that demons, like flies, are willing and able to operate in large numbers. Their substance is such that thousands of them can inhabit a single individual. What that means in essence is that individually demons are rather meaningless and harmless. So if therefore we speak of Jezebel, and intend to mean a strong spirit, we must know if we are speaking of a demonic or else an angelic spirit. We also need to know whether that really means one spirit or many, and we need to know whether we are speaking about an exceptional activity or an ordinary activity. We also need to be able to recognise that the term demonic is not simply a term that applies to demons.
Men and women can be demonic in their behaviour with no help from Satan. We know this because Jesus spoke directly to the apostles and said, “Did not I choose you the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” This one whom Jesus called a devil, is Judas. Judas was of that number who went out to preach the kingdom and came back with the seventy-two declaring, “even the demons are subject to your name”. If Jesus Himself has said that Satan cannot cast out Satan, then neither can Judas cast out Satan by Satan. Yet Judas did cast out demons. It is not until the Lord went up to Jerusalem to be delivered over to death that Satan first entered Judas to possess him in order that he might do that exceptional work of wickedness appointed to him.
When Jesus first identified Judas as a devil, which is the same greek word used for every instance of that term in the New Testament, Judas was a mere man – though such a man that he could consider that which the other disciples could not even comprehend. In short, Judas was a demonic man. Not a possessed man, but a man who was given over in his own mind to that which no ordinary man could have imagined doing as a chosen Apostle. “Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness. Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him.”
This terrible reality ought not to be lost on anyone because today such are the times we live in, where ordinary men and women have given their natural minds over to do that which in every other generation was incomprehensible. It amounts to the murder of unborn children, the exchange of natural affections, to desire such things, and to agree with them and to call them natural. It means to deny God in His entirety and to lay hold of oneself and to please oneself fully. It means “do as you will shall be the whole of the law.” In like manner are angels in heaven being drawn away from their estate into an agreement to disobey God, and those hosts that were beforetime disobedient, who rule over this present darkness, have become devils in their own minds. There is no need for a demon if an angel or a man is willing to become a devil themselves. In this circumstance, the activity of demons is changing, and their direction of effects is also changing. Unless we comprehend this, we will find that any attempt to understand a Jezebel spirit will be illusionary.
The term devil used by the Lord with regard to Judas, in greek, means an accuser. The same meaning is intended when that term is used for the devil himself, whereas the term demon describes a different thing altogether. A demon is an agent. Whereas Satan is not called a demon, but rather their prince. If therefore we speak of a demonic man we are in effect speaking about a man who is an agent of Satan. Satan’s chief activity before God is that of being an accuser of the brethren. Today, as in all time, those who accuse others become by nature the same in meaning and effect as Satan himself is in his chief activity before God. If we look again at Queen Jezebel, we find that she understood this principle well. So did the Pharisees who laid the groundwork for others to bear false witness against Christ. Judas was appealing to the Pharisees precisely on this ground. And when the Pharisees insisted that Abraham was their father, Jesus made it very plain that their father was the devil.
These are the words that Jezebel wrote concerning Naboth:
“Call everyone together and tell them to go without eating today. When they come together, give Naboth a seat at the front. Have two liars sit across from him and swear that Naboth has cursed God and the king. Then take Naboth outside and stone him to death!”
Given that Satan’s chief desire is to be as god, and also that his chief activity is accusing men before God, it may not be so difficult to see that the chief activity of his demons is to accuse God before men. And this is precisely what all demons essentially do. That which people call a spirit of Jezebel is especially confederated to produce the whole effect of turning men from God to worship Satan. This is not in the rather dark sense of a conscious decision to worship Satan directly, as such a thing is extremely rare. It is much more a sense of turning men away from God and towards idols. In the book of Revelation we see that this is the condition of the whole of humanity in the end, and the option set before all men.
“Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed. It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of the beast it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain. Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.”
By accusing God before men, there is no hope for men with God. All that which stands for the goodness and mercy of God is washed away at once when men lay hold of a grievance against God himself and believe it. It is but a short step from that place to lying down with demonic powers and agreeing to rebel against God Himself. Thereafter it is a short walk to turning one’s mind to another god, who is no god at all, and in that, the spirit of Jezebel begins its real work of turning men to idols, by which men are turned to Satan. When men turn to idols, they turn to demons who stand behind those things, and in so turning they are pressed into the place of worshipping Satan himself. I imagine that there are literally multitudes of ways in which evil spirits can begin that process. For some, it is through cruel and hateful parents who lay waste to their children, and through injustice the children rebel and grow cold towards God. If one comes along, in that state of mind, and sets before them a basis for accusing God directly, God Himself is blasphemed, and the one turning them have become a friend. Thereafter begins the more easy thing, and it is not long before that one is led into blackest darkness. If we read the account of the fall of man into sin in the garden of Eden, this is what Satan does.
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
This same precise methodology is evident between husbands and wives where the husband is unjust, or where a wife is incapable of submitting to her husband, and it is especially true between fathers and children, wherein we are told: “fathers do not cause your children to stumble.” The same is true with an unjust king, a false judge and a thoughtless pastor. Indeed in every authoritative relationship that God has established, the spirit of Jezebel has been historically confederated by Satan to harm women and children, cause men to stumble by governments, and those of the Lord’s house to stumble because of their pastors. In all of this, it is God who is held responsible in the hearts of men and women.
But I say that this was in the past, and whilst all these things continue, the work of that confederate agreement between unclean spirits and Satan has essentially changed, and has become other than. This is because on the shores of the Great Sea from which the beast arises, and the land thereto from which another beast arises – the work of rebellion, of the breakdown of gender authority and households is complete in law. And whilst there are numerous churches across Europe and North Africa, Israel and the Middle East, that have held onto the order of God’s creation, even now those philosophies that have given rise to gender neutrality, by removing male and female, promoting homosexuality and bringing into visibility transgender persons, are full and complete. Their effect and adoption by all parties are already underway. Yet in Israel these things are more fully embraced than even in many European countries. In saying this of course we are speaking about that which is visible and easily understood. The work of Satan through his demonic agents, such as the hitherto named spirit of Jezebel is a truly hidden work because its ambition is so diabolical that even those things of reverting the order of creation to reflect demonic and angelic ambition, by sowing gender confusion and laying waste to male and female legal structures, such as marriage, patriarchy and church eldership, are mere outward evidences that serve as a cover for the appearing of the Man of Sin. It is the Man of Sin that is in mind because this represents Satan’s one single occasion to rule directly over the Nations, from Israel.
At this point in this brief insight into the afore named spirit of Jezebel, I would like to present a linear structure on how best to comprehend this confederacy of spiritual effects, and let the reader discern their own meaning according to God and not by the direction of men. My own motive in creating these three lists is to rationalise demonic claims so as to defeat superstition and therefore fear. It is superstitious presentations of demonic activity that gives rise to physical and psychological fear, whereas using our minds rationally empowers us to exercise our own will to resist superstition. Ignorance or a lack of knowledge is debilitating, especially when others press for a great show of demonic activity. All such activity produces fear where there is either no spiritual mind, or else where there is superstition. The best attitude to take is a rational one because demonic activity is real. However, it is almost entirely hidden in support of its real ambition, and only comes to light for those who are either delivered of demonic oppression and possession, or when demons themselves put on a show to induce physiological and psychological fear in order to facilitate oppression.
Jezebel is both an individual spirit, as well as a confederacy of spirits.
The name Jezebel is derived in its meaning from three spirits working together to produce idolatry in men.
Therefore Jezebel is a religious spirit.
These three spirits are Witchcraft, Necrophilia and Sophos.
The term or the name Jezebel is a conceit of Satan as far as demonic hosts are concerned. Though it is a true name amongst men.
Unlike Witchcraft, Necrophilia and Sophos, which are names representing effect, Jezebel describes ambition and purpose.
The spirit that forms the lead in this confederacy takes the name Jezebel as a conceit reflecting willingness and accomplishment.
Therefore Jezebel is not one spirit, but four spirits.
The name Jezebel, as a demonic name has the effect of hiding the spirit that is at the centre of this effect and agreement.
This hidden spirit works and presents through Witchcraft, which alone is visible, wherein Necrophilia and Sophos are also hidden.
Therefore the spirit of Jezebel is both an individual spirit, hidden and labouring through occult means, as well as an agreement between spirits.
This pattern is replicated throughout the demonic world, and so there are literally millions of organised demonic activities that fall into that name and effect.
There is one individual and hidden spirit which agreed with Satan to labour in what has become the Jezebelic way.
Whereas witchcraft, necrophilia and Sophos being of the same sentient origin, wherein their personalities are subjugated to Jezebel.
Jezebel represents in the demonic orders what Satan represents in the angelic orders.
Principalities and powers of wickedness in the heavens, support, maintain and uphold Jezebel on the earth.
Of all the demonic pretensions to rank and favour, none carry more weight and substance than does Jezebel, who is subject to Satan alone.
Of angels, there are first, Seraphim.
Of Seraphim there is the eternal presence of God and His throne
Of Seraphim there are covering Cherubs going to and fro in their sphere of authority
Of Covering Cherubs there [was] Lucifer, the bright shining one, perfect in wisdom and beauty in the day he was created
Of angels there are arc angels and there are angels
Of angels there are captains of hosts, and there are hosts.
Of demons, there are no true ranks. All demonic spirits are of the same substance, and form the same creature in purpose and determination of God. Though in their number before their fall, there were kings, in their demonic state, there are no true ranks.
Lucifer was cast down from the sides of the north, from amongst the stones of fire.
His cover as a Cherub was both in heaven, and in authority over the celestial world of the earth.
The side through which Satan enters heaven, and from which he was cast down is the north, and it is from and to the north that he goes about his business.
Of the companies of heaven, none are more affected by his influence than are they that dwell in the halls of the north.
It is the principalities and powers in the North that agreed with Lucifer secretly and it is they that endlessly work against God in agreement with Satan.
It is to the gate of the north, and the halls therein, that wicked men direct their prayers if they are knowingly serving Satan, or else if they are deceived on the earth into directly serving him.
Of demons there are countless numbers, like flies, unclean and lacking self control, who labour in the air, in the bodies and minds of men and women, Being they that were formerly under the direct governance of the Covering Cherub, called Lucifer, in their own bodies, in the dominion of the earth, and who were cast into death at the same time or shortly thereafter when Satan was cast down from the sides of the north.
That spirit labours with the absolute knowledge of the support of men and angels through every age and is always present in the efforts of men to assail heaven to intercourse with wicked hosts, and to lie down in agreement with Satan.
All who reject Christ enter into that agreement, and in the end, there will be no turning back. When that day comes we will have true apostasy of the churches, with the Man of Sin standing in the Holy Place, changing times and seasons, and declaring himself as true god.
The most appalling reality is one that few can accept or even comprehend. It is the church (those who take the name of Christ) that harm the church and in the church that the most wicked men and women will finally be found in this age. The most wicked men were found in Israel in the Lord’s day.
In its corporeal estate, and under the dominion of Lucifer according to his Seraphic estate, Jezebel had no authority.
It was a spirit of no consequence or importance.
It was a spirit of innocence, and it was a nursery spirit.
Its inclusion in the rebellion of Satan was narrowly focused, but it was wilful. Having used his great beauty to beguile those whom he was set king over, Lucifer then prepared a few from the least of that creation to serve him in his ambitions.
As with all spirits of that Luciferian Seraphic dominion, deception took the form of lies and false promises.
These lies were predicated on accusations of disobedience, and a sense of having foolishly worshipped Lucifer as a god, as well as a failure to see that his desire was to be like God.
Before Satan was cast down, and his covering destroyed, he established an agreement with a number of spirits in which they would serve as an influence on the minds of probationary or else nursery spirits in the dominion of the celestial earth of that time. Jezebel laboured in that place. It is from this place that it is established as a mother figure.
The overarching initial relationship between Satan and those who eventually go on to be adept in his service is a relationship of perfect wisdom to reciprocal innocence.
This was the very basis of the conversation between the woman and Satan in the Garden of Eden.
Whereas God Himself determined to bring the woman into his purposes, despite the fall into sin, calling her Eve in recognition of its meaning, Jezebel was given no such reprieve.
From the beginning of its agreement with Satan, Jezebel was promised a heavenly title as queen of heaven which the princes of heaven, including Satan himself would eternally uphold in a blasphemous conceit. That falsehood would form the very first teaching of all pagan religions and constitute a claim to the birth of the gods through a heavenly consort of many and various names. Thus by that means is the Father in heaven removed from the understanding of men as the true creator of all things in heaven and on the earth. Until Christ came into the world, no man knew the name of the Father. It was Christ Himself who revealed it because it was the name that was given to Him. That name is Father.
Whereas men and demons fall from innocence into guilt, princes and dominions in heaven fall from light into darkness.
Heavenly hosts are created in their places of authority and hold Office according to the eternal will and purposes of God.
Temporal and earthly created beings, according to the Seraphic and celestial earth of ancient times, were given no station in heaven.
Men were created to sit in Christ at the right hand of the Father, to judge angels, to rule over the earth and to dwell with God for eternity.
Whereas Jezebel was given sight of heaven, no entrance thereto was given or intended. The place from which Jezebel laboured was the earth at a time when the earth was in a celestial and spiritual relationship directly with heaven. If you will, heaven came to earth, and earth was not excluded from comprehending heaven by that means.
